This particular blog revolves around my experiences at the
BCS National Championship, but is not about football. For some time I've been under pressure by
my blogmates to post more often. I
intend to start a series on how to write a novel, which I have discussed at
length with Patty Smiley. But I wanted
to get one last post that was at least tangentially related to sports.
My son, John, and I, made the long trip to Southern
California last week and spent most of Monday in lovely Pasadena. The three pictures and video should give you
an indication of how we spent the day. I
will say that being a sports fan, and a father, and a Florida State alum came
into perfect alignment Monday night. There
are few men in the history of the world that could claim to have had such a
lucky night.
As to the video, the conversation leading up to it will be
etched into my brain for all time. The
young man to my left told me what was going to happen. With a slight sway due to a day spent at
tailgate partie, he looked up at me near the end of the game and said in a
very polite tone, "Sir, if we win this game, I'm going to kiss
you." Please keep in mind that we
had almost no interaction prior to the statement (and I'm a little bit of a germ-a-phobe). After the final Florida State score, when
Auburn had one last chance to pull out another miracle, the young man turned to
me again and in a solemn voice said, "Sir, prepare to be kissed."
That capped one of the greatest nights anyone has ever spent
in Pasadena, California.
John and I ran into the Governor and first lady of Florida. The Governor looked at John's retro garb and said, "Nice pants."
The Auburn fans are great. G-R-E-A-T! Here we are showing our mutual respect before the game was decided.
At the moment of truth and after the kiss.
I can never shave again.
Awesome video! The game was a nail-biter. So great to see you and John in SoCal! WELCOME BACCCCCKKKKK!
ReplyDeleteGreat game and it's totally cool that you were able to share it with your son. Now, come on back to Florida and bring some warm weather with you!
ReplyDeleteGood Game, good trip. I am wiped out.

ReplyDeleteWell, not being a "to the game" sort of gal, the who and the where went over my head, but the smacker that came your way was worth watching, Our Jim! Glad you had such a great time - and look forward to reading your innermost thoughts more often.
Let the record reflect I would not kiss you, even if you gifted me with a winning lottery ticket. That having been said, this was a trip you and your son will remember forever.
