Okay, really really really I want to get better about posting on time. Things are still a little nuts, but getting better slowly.
I spent hours this morning out on Long Island with a very nice accountant who also writes children's books. I think he deserves a cape and possibly tights for bailing me out of my financial debacle. He has yet to meet with the IRS on my behalf, but just knowing someone is going to is, well, HUGE.
Have also had weird news from my editor/publisher yesterday, which I won't go into but which is a fucking bummer. Sigh. Not really what I wanted to hear while I'm mid-audit.
On the bright side, I have really magnificent friends. And the beau has tremendous menschismo.
Like--here's how excellent my friends are: my pal Sharon found all the receipts from the writing conference we put on together in 2009 and scanned them and emailed them to me this morning. Because I am a woeful loser with paperwork and lost money on that conference and the latter now turns out to be A Good Thing.
Yea for Sharon!
And also, my pal Ariel, who said to me yesterday on hearing my yucky editor news: "You know what? You will definitely have to navigate this, but here's the groovy thing... right now, you have a boat, and there's no water in your boat. There will be waves and stuff, and you can't just float through them, but you have a fine little boat with no water in it. And you're going to be okay."
Which is just a really beautiful image and just what I needed to hear.
Yea for Ariel!
And yea for you guys for being patient with me, thank you!
from Jacqueline
ReplyDeleteDearest Miss C - with your talent, you will always have a very good boat.
Jackie, you are good for my heart and soul, and I thank you as always. xx
DeleteLove the boat imagery! You have enough nautical background & have sailed through typhoons already! Get that Sinkeytowne YC burgee ready!
ReplyDeleteThe IRS is also a bit like the Wizard of Oz-- scarier to contemplate than in reality. They can't actually KILL you, you know? And when I had my own travails with them it really did turn out that there were nice actual humans working there and they understood the concept of "blood from a turnip".
You have a very good boat, and are a talented gal.
"Fair winds never made for good sailors". mbh
Sinkeytowne rules!!! And I love everything you've said here, about the IRS and about sailing. THANK YOU! xxxx
DeleteI'm here, cheering on you and your boat!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!
DeleteI'm going to STEAL that word "menschismo." With attribution, of course.
ReplyDeleteI am deeply honored, dear Paulie.
DeletePaddle like hell, honey. You can do it! *puts on regatta duds, madly waves flag*
ReplyDeleteAhoy, dear matey! And a bottle of rum...
DeleteI was audited once in the long ago first husband era. I went alone into the lions' den. When my accountant went back to repair the damage, he reported that my file had a notation:"Taxpayer became enraged." I did. I saw red. So bravo to you for having the sense to have a professional represent you in the first place.
ReplyDeleteGlad to be of help, dearest Cornelia! May your little boat always be dry and safe.
ReplyDeleteOh... Cornelia, long ago - March, I think it was - you said you needed a machete sometimes, to hack your way through life. May I borrow your machete?
ReplyDeletePS: Sorry I am late, too. I love you and any boat you choose to sail.
